So here’s the story … In 1889, during a visit to Napoli (Naples), Queen Margherita of Italy was served a pizza with colors resembling those of the Italian flag: red (tomato), white (mozzarella) and green (basil). The pizza was a big hit with the queen, and so it was named after her – Pizza Margherita.
Since then, pizza Margherita has become one of the most popular pizzas in the world.
Pictured is a variation that our friend, Vincenzo, recently made for us with arugula instead of basil. Bella e buona!
